The model used is adiabatic, hydrostatic, quasigeostrophic, and baroclinic with quadratic drag force at the lower boundary, vertical momentum diffusion in the interior, and a weak scale-selective horizontal momentum diffusion law. The solution technique is that of quasilinearization for the resulting non-linear, two-point boundary value problem. The steady solutions are also analyzed for their linearized stability to perturbations; they are found to be unstable for sufficiently strong wind stress and weak vertical momentum diffusion.
