Advances in GNSS-Based Remote Sensing for Weather, Climate, and Space Weather: Missions, Applications, and Emerging Techniques

The International Radio Occultation Working Group (IROWG) Workshop brings together scientists, engineers, and operational users to advance the field of radio occultation (RO) remote sensing in atmospheric and ionospheric research. In 2024, the workshop was cohosted by UCAR’s Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA) and Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC) programs. It had the largest recorded attendance for an IROWG meeting since inception in 2010, with over 180 abstracts submitted and more than 150 in-person participants. The program featured over 60 oral presentations and more than 100 posters, providing a comprehensive overview of scientific advancements and operational developments in the field. Focused subgroup discussions culminated in a set of recommendations submitted to the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) for consideration in its guidance to international space agencies.
